Canna tuerckheimii
(syn.: C.altensteinii)
Supplied in a 7cm pot
This is a cool growing Canna that originates from the South American Andes. Now widespread throughout Central America. Big broad leaves for Pseudo stems of up to 3 to 3.5 meters, given favourable conditions. This jungle giant tops out with beautiful delicate exotic tubular flowers in orange with hints of red. Flowers are followed by large seed pods filled with dark chocolate coloured spherical seeds.
In mild areas and urban micro climates this Canna can be left in the ground with a deep winter mulch protection. We lift ours, clean off the tubers and store in coir in a frost free cool space.
Tubers can be restarted in March/ April in a warm greenhouse or window sill.
Plant out after last frost and feed heavily with seaweed extract.
