Hedychium densiflorum ‘Assam Orange’

Hardy perennial ginger.
Supplied as a bare root rhizome with growing point. ( EX 1.5 litre pot April to May)

This hardy ginger is a clump-forming perennial with stems to 1meter in height, and glossy, lance-shaped, mid-green leaves 30-40cm in length. In late summer produces fragrant, deep orange flowers in very dense, bottlebrush spikes 20cm long.  This selection is larger than the species and probably the hardiest of all the gingers and a must for any jungle garden!
Grow in full sun to part shade in moist but well drained soil. Prefers a acidic PH, but can handle most soils. Once the foliage dies back cover the rhizomes with a thick bark chip mulch

Full sun/ part shade

RHS hardiness rating H4

Picture 1 and 2 shows the flowers on a planted specimen and is not the plant for sale. These plants are ready for potting up and growing on for planting out this summer. Check out our cultivation guides for detailed information on Hedychiums.
