Hedychium ellipticum
‘Rock butterfly ginger’
Supplied in a 1.5 litre pot
A Stunning ginger for the jungle garden. The stems grow upwards, and when mature, lean outwards thereby displaying the flowers clear of the leaves, whilst the edges of the leaf bases that clasp the stems are distinctly coloured red. This plant has a unique clove-like fragrance. Coming from the Himalayan mountains it is hardy in the UK if given a warm, sunny position in well drained soil. Water and feed with a tomato fertiliser through out the summer. The plant is deciduous if grown outside and the rhizomes should be protected with a thick mulch of dry bark clippings in winter. The plant will spread over time so it needs space to develop.
Full Sun
Well drained soil
RHS hardiness rating H4
