Yucca aloifolia

This big spiky beast is one of our favourite Yucca. Y. aloifolia, commonly known as ‘Spanish dagger’, is a large spiky succulent growing up to 3 meters. One of the most architectural and hardy of the genus, being tolerant of high levels of moisture and several degrees of frost, making this yucca a good species for Uk cultivation. Yucca aloifolia is a reliable flowerer and produces stout inflorescence to about 50 cm. Flowers are a beautiful cream white, waxy and bell shaped. Flowering in Europe is usually in early spring.
Forms a substantial trunk over time, but should be planted away from pathways due to the very sharp leaf spikes.
